Pet-safe plants that still look good

The old advice was grim: pets or plants, pick one. It is simply not true. Some of the most beautiful houseplants are non-toxic to cats and dogs — you just have to know which ones, and arrange them like you mean it.

The good-looking safe list

Calathea — patterned leaves that move through the day. Boston Fern — a green fountain made for hanging baskets. Money Tree — a braided trunk and real height. Parlour Palm — soft, arching, and tolerant of shadier rooms.

Placement is half the trick

Even safe plants survive better out of casual reach. Hang trailing plants, raise the tempting ones on stands, and give cats a legal target — a pot of cat grass on the sill often ends the leaf-nibbling negotiations entirely.

What to avoid

Lilies are genuinely dangerous to cats, and sago palms to dogs. Everything on our Pet-Friendly shelf is checked, and every product page in the shop states its pet status plainly — because 'probably fine' is not good enough.
